Human Rights day, Freedom and Justice for all
On Human Rights Day the humanitarian institution “Hope for Children” CRC Policy Center (HFC) honors this essential fundamental celebration remarking the importance of the protection of democracy and Human Rights. In a complex time where there are many difficult changes affecting millions of people, states and the society have to re-actualize the necessity to defend the constitutional freedoms, leaving no one behind. The importance to underline the universality and inalienability of Human Rights is also originated from the fact that inequalities, restrictions to freedom and discriminations still exist worldwide.
Hope for Children has initiated and established close cooperation with institutions and actors on an international and European level, including legislative, executive and judicial instruments, and it is a member of significant networks to further promote the rights of the child on a global scale. HFC collaborates with national, regional and international advocacy institutions to reform child welfare system, contributing to the promotion and the protection of the rights of the child. Children’s rights are human rights specifically shaped to adequately respond to the fragilities and the needs of the children. Only by recognizing that all the human beings have the dignity to be protected and included (without any discrimination in relation with age, nationality, religion and ethnicity), it is possible to lay the foundations for a dialogue. Through the latter, Governments can create a better environment for cooperation, drawing in the same direction all the actors involved in the decision making.
In the contemporary debate, Human Rights hold a central position. 2022 has been the year in which Europe has faced again the fear of war, shedding light on the risks that European democracies can also run. The conflict has affected the freedom of opinion, expression and association, actualizing the impact of hostilities on the rights of people. Despite the dramatic situation, the Ukraine war had led to reflect on the precarity of Human Rights, remarking not to take them for granted.
In this scenario, Hope for Children has carried out a series of humanitarian actions aiming to support children and families. With the work, the vision and the mission of Hope for Children, the organization underlined its efforts to respond to the human crisis and support the protection of the people who escape from difficult situations.
Unfortunately, the Ukraine war is only one of the several conflicts that still exist worldwide. Many of these countries do not have democratic governments and violence is the main instrument through which dissent is repressed. People in societies who try to stand up for their rights and bring attention to human inequalities finish up going through violence. This highlights that there are still several challenges which Western countries have to face with to protect Human Rights.
To celebrate the importance of the rights sanctified in the UNDHR, the United Nations has launched a year-long campaign. 75 years have passed since the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted. UNDHR guaranteed for the first time the essentiality of protecting the basic needs of all human beings. Over the years, UNDHR has been strengthened, advancing the defense of Human Rights. However, this does not mean that the fight for rights and equality is over. To remark on the importance of standing up for rights, the 2022 Theme of Human Rights Day is Dignity, Freedom and Justice for all.
